Even while business has been suppressed, we have continued our commitment to reinvest time and money into our existing cinemas. In the last few months, Merlin’s hardworking team has travelled across the country.
More updates will be confirmed as finances allow. This overview does not include various electrical updates or projection equipment improvements but rest assured, we are committed to continuing to improve our buildings and customer experience.
Regal Movieplex in Cromer
Regal Movieplex in Cromer has now completed its recent re-seating program. Three of the four auditoria have been fitted with modern red seats. This project was challenging, as the floor had to be replaced, which made the project more lengthy. However, the results are well worth it. Our customers are happy, and we were able to slightly increase ticket prices, now that standards are higher.
Screen 4 now known as the Wordingham Suite is a lovely touch. For those who don’t know, Angie, the assistant manager at Regal Movieplex, has worked at that cinema for more than 40 years and is synonymous with cinema in her local community. She was even nominated for a real BAFTA award for her length of service. Angie now has her own screen named in her honour. Screen 4 has been renamed the Wordingham Suite in honour of Angie Wordingham.
Regal in Redruth
At Regal Redruth, we’ve completed improvements to the toilet facilities, refurbishing them with new modern lighting, attractive wall-tiling and new floor coverings.
Embassy in Ilfracombe
Embassy Ilfracombe is on track to have new seats by the end of the year. This project, which requires a new floor with stepping, will hopefully breathe new life into this lovely Art Deco cinema and enable it to compete better with the local rival along the coast.
Astoria in Ayr
Astoria Ayr has completed an exterior facelift with repairs to the facade, reinstatement of the 1930s tiling and impressive new signage along with the front of the building being floodlit beautifully at night. The ASTORIA now stands proud at the gateway to the town, in general, the results are a credit to all involved; it is overall a fantastic outcome. The interior improvements will continue over the coming months and years as we welcome back the cinema-goers of Ayr who have flocked back in their thousands.
Plaza in Weston-super-Mare
The Plaza Weston-super-Mare has received new signage, and the work on the attached retail units continues.
Ritz in Pezance
The Ritz project in Penzance is nearing the end of the current phase now that other services have been carried out. This project will continue but will not detract from our other planned improvements.
